About these notes

A small corner of the web, written by threeicream.

This notebook is for the details that are easy to understand once and surprisingly easy to forget: the meaning of an HTTP header, the shape of a useful command, or the questions a backup plan should answer.

The aim is simple: take one question at a time, work toward a clear explanation, and leave enough context for someone else to follow.

What you will find here

Most entries are practical notes about programming and everyday systems work. Some are short explanations. Others are reading notes that point to writing worth spending time with. The archive collects everything by date and topic.

Examples are deliberately small. They are starting points for understanding an idea; the right choice for a particular project still depends on its requirements.

Sources and acknowledgements

Technical references are linked beside the ideas they support. Reading notes identify the original author and link to the original writing. Photographs have their own permanent credits page.

The traditional, text-first blog is a good format for this kind of work: readable pages, durable links, and room for a useful aside. Simon Willison's Weblog is one inspiration for that approach. The writing and identity here belong to this notebook.
